Nurturing Wonder and Curiosity: Spiritual Development at St. Oswald’s CE Primary School

Spiritual development is about exploring life’s big questions—those that relate to meaning, purpose, and our place in the world. As Ofsted notes, it is not dependent on religious belief and is relevant to everyone.

At St. Oswald’s, we believe spiritual development is about helping children become more aware of their own innate sense of wonder, connection, and self-understanding. It’s not about becoming “more spiritual,” but about nurturing reflection, empathy, and curiosity.

To support this, we’ve created a peaceful Reflection Garden in a quiet corner of our school field, thoughtfully centred around our Remembering Tree. This special space offers children a chance to pause, reflect, and connect with their thoughts and feelings in a calm and natural environment.
