Closing the Gap: Our Pupil Premium Strategy
Pupil Premium at St. Oswald’s CE Primary School – The Pupil Premium Grant is additional funding given to schools to help support pupils who may be disadvantaged and to help close the attainment gap between them and their peers. The grant is allocated based on the number of pupils who are currently eligible for free school meals (FSM), or who have been eligible at any point in the past six years.
Additional funding is also provided for children who have been adopted from care, children who are or have been ‘Looked After’ by the Local Authority within the last 12 months, and children of service families – with a focus on supporting emotional wellbeing and providing mentoring where needed.
Schools have the flexibility to decide how best to use this funding, as they are best placed to identify the needs of their pupils. However, there is a clear expectation that the Pupil Premium should be used to support disadvantaged pupils in making good progress—particularly in English and Maths—and to help them achieve age-related expectations. Schools are also held accountable for how this funding is used to support the learning and outcomes of eligible pupils.
As part of this accountability, we are required to publish a summary of how the Pupil Premium was used in the previous academic year and outline our strategy for the current year. Please find our most recent Pupil Premium strategy document below:
