Strategic Learning & Progression at St. Oswald’s CE Primary School

We are a small primary school with mixed-age classes.

During the 2024–2025 academic year, the school implemented a transitional curriculum designed to prioritise the essential knowledge and skills required by our pupils. This ensured clear progression in learning, avoiding unnecessary repetition and addressing potential gaps.

Our 7 C's Curriculum Statement at St. Oswald's CE Chester

From September 2025, our aim is to reintroduce a two-year rolling programme, aligned to the structure of our mixed-age classes. As we make this transition, we remain mindful of the need to maintain continuity, prevent unnecessary repetition, and address any emerging gaps, ensuring every pupil experiences a broad, balanced, and coherent curriculum.

Where appropriate, learning will be delivered through a cross-curricular approach, enabling pupils to make meaningful connections across subjects and deepen their understanding.

Below, you can download our Curriculum Overview for the 2025–2026 school year. It has been thoughtfully planned with the above in mind and will be reviewed regularly to make sure it continues to support every child’s learning and progress.
